Pasadena Education Network is a local organization that helps parents and guardians explore, evaluate, and engage with their public schools, and represents a collective voice for parents with the Pasadena Unified School District.

SCCM is working with with them, as well as community partner Gia Gambaro Blount to offer a three session parent/guardian learning series, where families are invited to get support as they prepare to send their early learners to school for the first time.

In this April 16th workshop, PEN will provide resources to help you learn about and explore your public school options—plus an overview of how the open enrollment process works.

Tickets are $15 per family of 4 per session and are available online or in person.

Children are welcome to come and play in the museum during the workshop.

Doors for the event will open at 5:30 p.m., and the workshop/discussion will begin at 6:00 p.m. We know it’s dinner time! So families are invited to bring their own dinner to enjoy it at the museum.

We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kim Van Dusen to SCCM for an incredible parent resource workshop!

For nearly 20 years, Dr. Kim Van Dusen has provided parents with practical, effective ways to transform their parent-child communication, modify their child’s behavior, and foster a supportive family environment. Now, in this pioneering guide, the licensed family therapist, registered play therapist, creator of The Parentologist, and mom of two shares her positive and playful solution-focused strategies designed to meet children where they are and speak in a language they can understand: the universal language of play.

Dr. Kim’s book, Parenting Through Play, delivers clear how-to prompts, step-by-step instructions, and creative, engaging strategies to address everyday behavioral challenges and encourage positive habits that will cultivate a more peaceful home. Dr. Kim’s unique, positive, pragmatic approach and research-backed play therapy techniques offer a dynamic framework to empower parents, strengthen communication, reinforce healthy boundaries, create a deeper connection, and bolster children’s social skills, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Blending expert guidance with warmth and practicality drawn from Dr. Kim’s own experiences, Parenting Through Play offers every family a fun, proactive, and evidence-based path to thriving together.
