Southern California Children’s Museum (SCCM) was founded in 2013 by a group of parents who felt there was an underserved need for public early childhood education in their community. Now ten years in existence, SCCM supports developmental milestone growth for children 0-6 years old through the arts and served nearly 24,000 people in 2025.

Founded by the community, for the community.

The mission of SCCM is to champion the power of play to cultivate a child’s creativity, spark curiosity, and inspire learning.

SCCM partners with local schools and organizations to offer field trips, community programs, camps, and classes. Join us for regular community-based cultural celebrations that uplift the diversity of Southern California residents!

Cultural Equity and Inclusion Statement

Southern California Children’s Museum (SCCM) places cultural equity and inclusion at the forefront of our mission as well as our programming and community offerings. We believe all children in Los Angeles County, and beyond, deserve access to high-quality early childhood arts and culture programming. We recognize there are disparities in access to these programs in our region particularly for Black, Indigenous, Latina/o/e, and other underserved populations impacted by systemic inequities within the education system. We create exhibits, events, classes, programming, and other opportunities for children to learn about cultural identities so they feel represented and build social-emotional skills such as empathy for others. We are committed to including people from all cultural backgrounds in our development process to ensure authentic and culturally sensitive outcomes. We are committed to refining and evolving our policies and programmatic offerings as we grow as an organization so that we serve as a safe place for all children to explore.

Land Acknowledgement Statement

Southern California Children’s Museum acknowledges our museum space occupies land originally and still inhabited and cared for by the Tongva, Fernandeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash Peoples. We respect tribal elders and all past and present generations of Native Americans who have cared for this land and local waters. We are grateful to be able to provide early childhood education programs, exhibits, and play experiences for children and families on ancestral lands. We recognize that these tribes are still here, and we are committed to uplifting their stories, culture, and community in our programming.

FUTURE OF SCCM

From the start, we’ve always envisioned building a permanent home for Southern California Children’s Museum, with galleries for Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Farm to Table, and My California exhibits. Here, we could bring to life exciting experiences geared toward children under eight, including:
An interactive farmers’ market exhibit
A Hollywood Bowl dramatic play and music exhibit
A Santa Monica Pier water play exhibit
A Griffith Park Observatory camping exhibit
A LACMA Urban Light sensory exhibit
A library exhibit
A construction zone exhibit
A doctor’s office exhibit
A Rose Bowl float art and crafts exhibit

Simply put: We dream of more for SCCM, and we’re working hard to make it happen.

The all volunteer Board of Directors is the driving force behind the Southern California Children’s Museum. We are committed to creating the region’s premier children’s museum dedicated to Arts, Culture, and the Humanities. Our board is comprised of a diverse group of individuals who are investing their time, talents and resources in the Southern California Children’s Museum in order to improve the lives of our children and quality of our community. We welcome open discussion regarding the current progress and future plans for the museum.
