PROGRAMS AND EXPERIENCES
FACILITATED PROGRAMS
All programs and experiences are open ended, kid-driven, and support developmentally appropriate play and exploration. Programs last up to 30 minutes, and are facilitated by a museum team member.
Art & Expression
Big Art, Little Hands
Go big, go bold! With giant paper, bright paints, and tools like rollers, sponges, and stamps, children team up to create a mural-sized masterpiece. It’s all about movement, color, and creative expression on a grand scale.
Rip & Stick Creations
Tiny hands, big imagination! Children tear colorful paper into shapes and layer them into unique collages. No scissors, no rules — just playful exploration of color, texture, and design.
Story & Movement
Stories in Motion
A story that doesn’t just get read — it gets acted out! Children jump, crawl, stretch, and wiggle along as they bring a picture book to life through movement and imagination.
Dance & Storytelling
Rhythm, music, and playful props bring stories to life. With scarves, ribbons, or instruments, children explore sound and motion while creating their own joyful dances.
Sensory Exploration
Water Flow Explorers
Splash, pour, and predict! Children test what floats or sinks, pour water through funnels and tubes, and discover how water moves. It’s part science, part play, and all fun.
Oobleck Science Play
Is it a solid? Is it a liquid? Oobleck is a magical mixture that’s gooey one moment and firm the next. Children dig in with their hands and tools to explore this squishy, surprising substance.
PLAY EXPERIENCES
Additional Play Experiences are available for Field Trip Buyouts only. Please note these activities take place outdoors and are weather dependent. In the event of rain, we will offer a sensory exploration activity as a substitute.
Brilliant Bubbles
Big wands, tiny bubbles, and everything in between! Children chase, pop, and create shimmering bubbles. A mix of movement, science, and wonder.
Chalk the Walk
Our outdoor space becomes a giant canvas as children draw, doodle, and design with colorful chalk. From giant swirls to tiny patterns, it’s an outdoor art party full of creativity and collaboration.
Build Big with Blue Blocks
Students use oversized blue foam blocks to stack, balance, and arrange forts, pathways, bridges, and towers. Together, they’ll explore creativity, collaboration, and the joy of building BIG. Availability may change if these are already out on exhibit!

FIELD TRIP FAQ
What grades is SCCM appropriate for?
Our museum is designed specifically for children ages 0-6; we recommend preschool to 1st grade. For first graders, fall visits generally work best as children are still developing the skills that our museum and programming support.
We do not offer field trips to 2nd grade and above without prior authorization. Please contact us if you would like to discuss accommodation!
How many students can I bring?
We are a small museum! We can only fit one classroom of students at a time in order to retain a manageable experience for you, and other guests visiting the museum.
While we offer two different arrival times in the morning, we only book one classroom per morning.
If you would like to bring more than one classroom, or a larger classroom, you may need to schedule them across different dates, or take a look at our Buyout option.
How many chaperones are needed?
All field trips require a 1:5 adult-to-student ratio. A chaperones role is to ensure students stay with their group, follow safety policies and guidelines, and support them in being mindful of other museum guests.
Required chaperones are included in the pricing, additional chaperones are $10 each.
Can we bring lunch?
Yes! We offer lunch storage and eating space. Please note for large classrooms or groups, lunches will need to occur in rotations.
Where does the bus park?
Unfortunately, our location is unable to accommodate onsite bus parking, our lot is too small for them to turn around. They may find lots or street parking nearby, or may try to park at the Rose Bowl until ready for pick up.
What if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Field trips can be rescheduled 2+ weeks in advance, and your deposit transfers to the new date. Unfortunately, there are no refunds for cancellations within 2 weeks of your visit.
Please note we can only reschedule for dates in the current school year.
Can I pay the hold deposit and balance at the same time?
Yes! We understand that for many schools it is easier to pay it all at once instead of across two transactions. Let us know if this is what you would like to do, and we’ll send you a combined invoice for the hold deposit and the remaining balance.
I have not received a confirmation email from you, what do I do?
Please check your junk or spam to make sure our email didn’t get filtered out!
